PostHeaderIcon Hair Updos and Face Shapes

Choosing the right hair style for your big night or event can be quite daunting. There is just so much to choose from and what will really go with that dress you have chosen. The best place to start is with the shape of your face. That’s right, there are may types of Hair Updos available these days but not all are suited to every face shape. The face is the foundation of the Hair Style.

Working out your face shape

Now it is pretty hard to be objective when it comes to face shapes. Everyone wants to think they have the better face shape that will suit the style of updo they want. Here are four steps to help you work out what face shape you are.
  1. Measure around your face across your cheekbones.
  2. Do the same again across your jawline at its widest point.
  3. Now measure your forehead at it’s widest point.
  4. And finally measure down your face from your hairline to the tip of your chin.
Now that you have your measurements, compare them with the following common face shapes and you will have found yours.
  • Round: Your face measures as long as it is wide across the cheekbone.
  • Oblong: It measures longer than it does wider.
  • Square: Your face is roughly as wide in all three places as it is long.
  • Oval: You length works out to be 1 1/2 times the width.

So How Can I Where My Hair

For each face shape there are certain styles that work well and there are some that just don’t fit at all.

Oblong

For the rectangular shape of your face, you should tend to look more towards the shorter to medium length styles. Try to find styles that add fullness to the sides of your face to help balance out the long, slender look. Layers are fantastic for your face shape, adding softness. Try to avoid the longer looks as it will only add to the length of your face.

Round

Hair updos with fullness and parts are perfect for your round face. Try layering the top for fullness while leaving the rest of your hair close to your face. This will help your face appear longer. Avoid any fullness at the sides and keep away from chin length dos that mimic your head shape.

Oval

You can get away with just about any style. Most of them will look gorgeous on you. Hair length is not a problem here and you will look best with a style that takes your hair off your face. Steer clear of any feature that covers your face, like heavy bangs or invading sides.

Square

Short to medium hair styles will best suite your face shape. Especially any that introduce roundness to your face. Be sure to add height to your crown and go for big wavy bangs at the front. Be sure to stick clear of any linear styles that will just accentuate the face. Roundness is what you are looking for.

PostHeaderIcon Easy Do It Yourself Updo – Look Elegant Everyday

Your hair is undoubtedly one of the most versatile parts of your body, and its mere appearance can make or break the look you want to achieve. Whether it’s just for work or school or a crazy night out, there are different hair styles for different occasions.

Sometimes, when I’m feeling a bit experimental, I try on different looks just to see if there is one look that suits a particular occasion. While there are no hard and fast rules for it, I found that nothing suits gala and black-tie events more than an updo. Don’t believe me? Then look at all those red carpet pictures of celebrities. In almost 9 out of 10 pictures, women had their hair styled in some variant of an updo.

What they have, and common people like us don’t, is the luxury of having enough money to pay for stylists. After all, when it really comes down to it, would you spend your hard-earned cash just to make you look good for one night and then starve for the next few weeks?

This is why it is important to learn how to make an updo by yourself. Not only will it save you money, you can experiment and choose which updo will look good on you. One simple updo I find easy to do looks like an elegant double bun. To do this, split your hair from above the right ear to above the other ear. Hold that part in place while smoothing out the remaining hair. Now (you may need some styling products for this) roll your hair towards your scalp, as if you were wrapping it around a roller. Secure it to your scalp with pins. Do the same with the remaining hair.

See how easy it is? Of course, it will take some practice before you fully perfect the Do It Yourself Updo, but you have all the time in the world. Experiment and find your inner stylist.
